The European Union is planning a €100 million farm assistance package
The European Union is planning a €100 million farm assistance package as countries bordering Ukraine have begun restricting imports of Ukrainian grains, which they say have pushed down domestic prices, Reuters reported, citing a European Commission spokesman.
The European Commission, insists that countries do not take unilateral action, saying that "it is extremely important to coordinate and harmonize all decisions in the EU." The EU is helping to facilitate agricultural exports for Ukraine, which is at war after Russia invaded in February 2022.
In accordance with EU rules, the European Union can also restrict the import of products into the entire bloc or part of it, but still allow transit. European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis discussed the situation with the ministers of the affected countries - Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia - as well as Ukrainian counterparts at a meeting on 19 April.
