Grains will be rude, but not more productive

This year's drought and heat, which dominated most of the country in April, May and June, will have a significant impact on grain yield, the European Commission predicts that wheat production in Latvia will decrease by 9 percent. Also, the surveys of plant cultivation specialists of the Latvian Rural Advice and Education Center (LLKC) show that summer, especially in Kurzeme, this year did not expect a lot or did not expect at all what does not allow for good crops.

Oskars Balodis, Head of the LLKC Crop Production Department: "May and June are the months when the crop is practically shaped by the harvest, the number of straw per square meter and the grain in the earls grows. The main thing in this process is the humidity, which this year was missing in almost all fields. Due to the effects of drought in Kurzeme, summer rape does not chew a lot, many flowers are empty and they fall off. The thickness of the summer months is also not satisfactory. In Vidzeme and Latgale, depending on where the precipitation has been, the countryside looks satisfactory, however, the humidity expected in late June and early July allows one to hope for more grain grubbing up. On the other hand, the lack of moisture in Zemgale can not be visibly seen so much since the region dominates winter cereals, which were able to use the early spring moisture. "

Projections of productivity are also confirmed by the forecast of productivity for last year and this year.

Summer wheat in Kurzeme from 3.1 t / ha to 2.0 t / ha, in Zemgale from 4.6 t / ha to 3 t / ha, in Vidzeme from 4.2 t / ha to 2.5 t / ha, in Latgale from 3.8 t / ha to 2.3 t / ha.

Summer barley - in Kurzeme from 2.8 t / ha to 1.7 t / ha, Zemgale from 3.9 t / ha to 2.8 t / ha, in Vidzeme from 4.2 t / ha to 2.5 t / ha , In Latgale from 3.5 t / ha to 2.5 t / ha.

The total area of cereals this year is 703.5 thousand hectares. It should be noted that winter barley harvesting has already begun throughout the country. Drought affects their grains, but they are more detailed than they should, so crops will be considered satisfactory.
